Amish in the Snow

ISO 1600 ~ f/5.6 ~ 1/50 ~ 120mm ~ handheld, desaturation & edits done in iPhoto

This photo was actually a goof. I had my camera all set wrong, and as we were driving by, I shot this pict, looked at it, and realized that it was about 1 1/2 - 2 stops overexposed... Bummer! So, iPhoto to the rescue, I added some contrast, desaturated it, and violà! Actually, the blur caused by the forced overexposure adds some motion character to the shot, I think. Sometimes I find that my photos are too 'perfect' in the fact that they don't show life how it truly appears. Catching the emotion of a picture, be it a face, an object, or an animal, adds the extra between 'just a picture' and an eye-catching print. What do you think?

ISO 1600 ~ f/4.5 ~ 11 ~ 53mm ~ Tripod mounted, open-bulb manual shutter

Not too much to say about this picture, but it turned out pretty good, I thought, considering that it was 12:00am, totally pitch black, and I had to manually focus. The light is donated in it's entirety from several lightning-bolts.
I had to laugh when I looked at the picture later, and saw the cattle casually eating... I sure was glad to be out of the howling wind, rain, and lightning! :-)

Photo Blog...

I've decided that I probably don't have the time or talent to maintain two blogs of "enouragement..." So I'm going to stick to posting 'spiritual tidbits' on Salt & Light, and try to update this blog with just plain photos. I don't know how often I'll get around to updating, but I'll try and do it more frequently than I have been!!! :-)

ISO 1600 - f/4.0 - 1/30 - 41mm -- (handheld with IS)

P.S. Who can tell me what technical aspect of this photo is off?

On writing blog-posts...

I want to give a sincere apology to all those faithful readers out there that check my blog frequently. I have not really had a lot to write about, and I just haven't been in the mood for writing newsy, long, impassioned, and exciting (have I ever written any like that?) :-) posts.

It seems like in the last few months I should have had lots more time for this kind of stuff, but alas, the more time I have at my disposal, the more things I find to fill it. Again, my apologies to you loyal bloggers! ;-)
